Moment-o (590)

Marc Jacobs Beauty Momento-o (590) O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a muted, medium taupe with cooler, purplish undertones and a matte finish. It had an incredibly smooth, silky texture that was slightly powdery in the pan, but the product applied beautifully to bare skin and blended out effortlessly. The color sheered out slightly from its initial opaque coverage, but the actual powder seemed to “melt” a bit on my skin for a velvety look. It wore well for eight and half hours, which was a solid wear time (without a primer), but the formula was marketed as having 12-hour wear.

O Boy (600)

Marc Jacobs Beauty O Boy (600) O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a muted, light brown with slightly warm, olive undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin without sheering out too readily. The consistency was silky-smooth, velvety and substantial but not prone to fallout (though a little powdery in the pan). I noticed slight fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

O Snap (610)

Marc Jacobs Beauty O Snap (610) O!Mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a deep, charcoal brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had an incredibly smooth, silk-like texture that was dense without being thick or too firmly-pressed in the pan, so it blended out with ease on my skin but retained its full opacity and intensity. The color lasted well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Line Up

Marc Jacobs Beauty Line Up Mini Highliner Duo ($20.00 for 0.026 oz.) is a new, limited edition duo that features a matte brown (part of the permanent range) and a matte purple (exclusive to the set). The longevity of both shades was excellent, while Purple Reign could have been more pigmented and a bit creamier during application; (Earth)quake was fantastic. The set contains 0.0261 oz. worth of product, while a full-sized eyeliner is 0.0176 oz. and retails for $25.00, so the value in the set is $37.07.

(Earth)quake

(Earth)quake is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had opaque color coverage in one layer, which applied evenly and smoothly on my lower lash line without dragging or tugging on it. The consistency was creamy without being overly emollient or wet, so it had great glide but stayed in place. It lasted nicely for 12 hours before fading slightly on me.

Purple Reign

Purple Reign is a brighter, medium purple with cool, bluish undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, which was somewhat buildable–it never reached full coverage but when worn against the lash line, it was hard to tell any lack of pigmentation from a normal viewing distance. The consistency had enough glide to apply comfortably to my lower lash line, but it seemed slightly drier than other shades in the range. It wore well for over 12 hours without migrating or thinning on me.

Fenty Beauty Bordeaux Brat Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick ($25.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had buildable pigmentation from semi-sheer to mostly opaque when applied with a fingertip or brush with opaque coverage achieved in one pass when applied directly from the tube. The texture was true cream-to-powder, so it felt slightly creamy and had some slip initially but then turned into a more powder-like product applied to my skin. I didn’t have any difficulty apply it to my cheeks over bare skin or over base products, as the color applied evenly and blended out well along the edges. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before fading a bit.

  • Melt Cosmetics Fire Fury (P, $22.00) is more shimmery (95% similar).
  • MAC Here You Go (LE, ) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar).
  • Sleek MakeUP Pomegranate (P, $6.99) is more shimmery (90% similar).
  • theBalm Pinstripe (P, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar).

Formula Overview

$25.00/0.25 oz. – $100.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be long-wearing with a “light-as-air,” “blendable” texture that “lives to be layered.” They twist-up and are medium-sized with a domed edge. I found that applying to my fingertips worked better than direct application, as it enabled me greater control over coverage level as well as placement, and if you tend to apply over foundation, then this will help keep the Match Stix cleaner, too.

The texture was thin, and it did seem to go from a “cream” in the tube to a more powder-like product once on the skin. They were fairly blendable with a few being more sparkly with less visible base color, which may not be for everyone, and others had a more pearl-like sheen that didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. Most shades applied and blended out without lifting up foundation or pulling into pores (over bare skin), but the ones that did tended to have larger particles in them. They lasted between six and eight hours on me.

A problem I had throughout just swatching each shade on my cheeks for photos was that whatever was exposed was a bit dry, more powdery to the touch, and I felt like I had to really warm the product up and/or swipe it back and forth on the back of my hand to refresh the texture. This is not uncommon with drier, cream-based formulas, but it’s still a downside and an area that could be improved upon. Some shades were very pigmented, others were medium and buildable, and a couple were sheerer.

Fenty Beauty Beach Bum Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick ($25.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a medium coral with warm undertones and fine, golden pearl throughout. It seemed almost like a rusty coral–more a mix of red and orange undertones than pink but still not overtly orange-based. The texture was thin, lightly emollient from the tube, but it quickly turned from cream to powder when it came into contact with my skin (whether fingertips or applied directly onto my skin from the tube).

It had opaque coverage when applied directly from the tube and more semi-sheer, buildable coverage when applied with fingertips or a brush. I didn’t have any trouble patting it onto my skin and diffusing the edges, both over bare skin as well as over base products. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me before fading visibly. It seemed slightly more emollient to work with overall than the mini-version I tried in the holiday set.

Fenty Beauty Pink Lemonade Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick ($25.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a pop of medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and fine, gold pearl throughout. The texture was thin, lightweight, and felt like a cream-to-powder when initially applied to my skin and turned more powder-like after a few seconds of contact. There was enough slip that it felt more cream-like from the tube, though. The pigmentation was nearly opaque when applied directly from the tube and more buildable from sheer to opaque when applied with a brush or fingertip. It applied evenly and diffused easily along the edges on bare skin as well as on top of foundation. The color lasted well for eight hours on me before fading a bit. The standalone (permanent) version performed better than the original I tried in the holiday set.

Fenty Beauty Champagne Heist Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick ($25.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a soft copper with warm, orange undertones and fine gold and copper micro-sparkle. It had medium to semi-opaque coverage applied in a single stroke, directly from the tube, while the coverage was sheer to semi-sheer when applied with a brush or fingertips. It seemed somewhat sheerer compared to the holiday mini release.

The texture felt smooth to the touch, and the tube itself glided across my skin without dragging, but it had a faster dry down when I worked with it, so I’d recommend working one cheek at a time if using fingertips or a brush to apply or blend out. I applied by patting it into the general placement I wanted with my index finger, and then I used the edge of a clean fingertip to diffuse and soften the edges. The product blended out well over bare skin, and it didn’t seem prone to lifting up foundation. It lasted well for eight hours on me before I noticed signs of fading.
