“Noble Vines Collection continues to evolve to meet consumer demand, allowing us to create a diverse portfolio of wines that can be enjoyed year-round. Red blends are in the top three preferred varietals in table wine, accounting for 13% of the total table wine market1,” said Jon Guggino, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Delicato Family Wines. “Marquis Red follows on the success of the Noble Vines portfolio, which continues to grow market share.”

Marquis Red falls into the hot spot of wines in the $11-15 segment, the second fastest growing category in table wine, growing at +6.5%, with red blends being the fastest growing top varietal in this price segment as well2. It is available at a suggested retail price of $14.99.

Marquis Red is a full-bodied red featuring aromas of dark cherry, baking spice and vanilla with smooth tannins and a lingering finish.  Grown in the warm inland valleys of California, generous heat during the peak summer months allowed for full ripening, while a cool blanket of fog slipped through the vineyards every evening to keep temperatures cool, producing a lush and well-balanced wine.

Noble Vines Collection was borne from noble vine stocks originating from renowned vineyards in Bordeaux, Burgundy and Alsace and cultivated in California to craft wines of substance and character. Vine selections are matched to family-owned estates in Monterey and Lodi, California and sustainably farmed. The portfolio includes: 337 Cabernet Sauvignon, 181 Merlot, 515 Rosé, 446 Chardonnay, 152 Pinot Grigio and 242 Sauvignon Blanc.

But First Coffee (58)

Sephora But First Coffee (58) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rich, deep red-brown with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had rich pigmentation in a single layer, which glided effortlessly across my lips and delivered a smooth, even application. The texture felt lightweight, creamy without being too slippery, and was comfortable to wear. It stayed on nicely for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Vacation Goals (59)

Sephora Vacation Goals (59) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had opaque color coverage that adhered evenly and smoothly across my lips. The consistency was lightweight, creamy without being too thick or too slippery, though I had some product sink into my deeper lip lines. Thankfully, the settling wasn’t noticeable in person, just in the close-up photos. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Backstage (60)

Sephora Backstage (60) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep taupe base with green and gold shimmer and light sparkle. It was an interesting, complex color that was harder to dupe, partially because this combination of color and shimmer is hardly ever released! The texture was lightweight, creamy with some slip so it glided on without tugging on my lips but felt a little slippery during wear. There was some product that sank into my deeper lip lines, though the shimmer camouflaged some of that in person. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that could have applied more evenly. It lasted well for four and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating.

The prime minister has been criticised for broadly linking mental health issues to various kinds of crime across the UK.

Mental health charity Mind, said Boris Johnson should exercise caution in the associating violent crime with mental health problems and pointed out that people who suffer from mental health problems are more likely to be at risk themselves than the other way round.

Mr Johnson was speaking during his first Facebook Live “People’s PMQs”, in which he answered questions from the public.

Karl in Stourbridge apparently asked the prime minister whether he agreed “mental health services are a cornerstone of modern Britain’s health needs”, and what Mr Johnson would do to protect and advance them.

In responding to the question, Mr Johnson said: “I’ve been doing a lot in the last few days about crime, trying to tackle crime, but so many of the problems of crime and youth crime and youth violence and indeed crime of all kinds, are associated with mental health problems.

“I’m absolutely certain that what you need to do to help tackle mental health issues is for every aspect of the state that has a care for mental health patients of all kinds, is they all need to get together.”

Mr Johnson added: “Social services, housing, the police, the council, probation services, whatever, you need to have wrap around care for people with mental health problems. We need to escalate the issue and be much less afraid as a society of talking about mental health problems.”

Louise Rubin, parliamentary manager at Mind, said: “When it comes to comments made on the relationship between crime, violence and mental health, we would urge caution. The vast majority of us experiencing mental health problems are unlikely to ever pose a risk to others. We are far more likely to be victims of crime than perpetrators.

“Greater understanding on these issues is crucial if we are to continue to tackle the stigma and discrimination long attached to mental health problems.”

She added: “We welcome the prime minister’s recognition that in order to improve society’s mental health we need a more joined up approach between all different services – social care, education, housing, welfare, policing and health.

“The first step to providing ‘wrap around care’ is to establish a cross-government strategy, which puts mental health at the heart of every department’s agenda. This strategy must sit alongside previous commitments to improve mental health services as outlined in the NHS Long Term plan. With so many of us still being let down by the services meant to help us, urgent action is needed to improve people’s day-to-day lives.”

Here’s another delicious way to use fresh zucchini: Turn it into a spicy soup with mint, cilantro, and jalapeño. Serve it hot or cold!

Photography Credit:
Elise Bauer

If you have friends growing zucchini, right about now they are probably delighted, bordering on desperate, to give some of it away.

Especially problematic are those huge, baseball bat-sized monsters that appear out of the blue when you’ve neglected to check the garden for a few days.

This soup is made for such occasions.

How to Make Spicy Zucchini Soup

The beauty of this soup is that it uses lots of zucchini, it cooks up quickly (perfect for a midweek meal), and it keeps for at least a week in the fridge.

You just chop up the zucchini, skin on (unless it’s thick or tough, then peel it), and cook it down with some jalapeño, onions, and garlic, and add some bright herbs such as mint and cilantro for balance. The soup gets pureed.

I like it just as well chilled as hot.

Gluten-Free? No Problem!

This recipe calls for bread, but if you’re not doing gluten, you can substitute with one cup of chopped potatoes (cooked or uncooked) or cooked rice.

Or you can add a little cream at the end of cooking to help thicken it—just don’t boil the soup. (Note that if you plan on freezing the soup, it will freeze better with the rice substitution than with potatoes or added cream.)

How to Store and Freeze

The soup will keep refrigerated for up to a week. Serve chilled from the fridge, or heat it up on the stovetop or in the microwave.

You can freeze this soup for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the fridge, and reheat gently on the stovetop to serve. If the soup looks separated after thawing, purée it in a blender or food processor again.

ZUCCHINI IN EVERYTHING! TRY THESE RECIPES:

Updated August 14, 2019 : We spiffed up this post to make it sparkle! No changes to the original recipe.

Spicy Zucchini Soup Recipe

If you are using extra large zucchini, scoop out and discard the seeds first. And if the skin is thick or tough, peel it and discard the peels.

To make gluten-free: substitute the bread with 1 cup of chopped potatoes, cooked or uncooked, or cooked rice. If you use uncooked potatoes, you may need to simmer the soup a little longer. Or you can add a little cream at the end of cooking to help thicken it—just don’t boil the soup.

Don’t like mint or cilantro? Try substituting with basil or parsley.

Ingredients

Method

1 Sauté the onions and jalapeño: Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and the chopped jalapeño, and sauté for 4 to 5 minutes until the onions are translucent, but not browned.

2 Cook the garlic and zucchini. Add the garlic and zucchini to the pan and sauté for another 3 to 4 minutes, stirring often. Sprinkle with salt.

3 Add the bread and liquids: Add the bread, broth, and water, and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 20 minutes. (Note: If you’re using uncooked potatoes instead, you may need to simmer a little longer, depending on what kind of potatoes you use.)

4 Purée the soup: Remove the soup from the heat. Add the mint and cilantro (if using). Purée in a blender or food processor until smooth, working in batches if necessary. (You can also use an immersion blender.)

5 Add lemon juice, salt, pepper: Return the soup to the pot. Add the lemon juice, along with salt and pepper to taste.

6 Garnish and serve: Garnish with lemon wedges and sprigs of mint or cilantro. Serve hot or chilled. Keeps for up to a week in the fridge.

Upshot is an offshoot of Sonoma-based Rodney Strong Vineyards, a new brand focused on blending, well, all sorts of things. The results of the inaugural release of the wine — including a white and a red — show some promise to the concept. Let’s dive in.

2018 Upshot White Wine Blend California – A wild blend of 27% chardonnay, 21% grenache blanc, 18% gewurztraminer, 17% pinot noir, 11% viognier, and 6% sauvignon blanc. The wine spends three months in barrel, but the wood influence here is very restrained. The spicy gewurztraminer pops with a racy eucalyptus top note, then peachy-apricot viognier takes over. The other varietals (save perhaps the pinot) give the body an ample acidity and plenty of white fruit to keep things bright and lively through to the lasting finish. Incredibly drinkable and an excellent value. A- / $19

2017 Upshot Red Wine Blend Sonoma County – An equally crazy blend of 31% merlot, 31% zinfandel, 30% malbec, 5% riesling, and 3% petit verdot. Yes, that says riesling, but using a little white wine to brighten up a red blend is actually quite common. Here, I don’t get much of that brightness, but rather a somewhat earthy, slightly pruny melange of dried fruit, spice, and oak. The zin takes over much of the show, leading to a somewhat gummy conclusion. Overall, it’s… fine. B / $20

Global bulk wine markets remain firm despite dry and hot conditions in South Africa and Europe…so far

While water reserves are finally being replenished in South Africa’s Western Cape region and in South Australia, drier than-normal winters are being experienced in Argentina and Chile for a second successive year as two record-breaking summer heatwaves hit winegrape crops in Europe this summer.

In introducing the latest Global Market Report by Ciatti Global Wine & Grape Brokers, dated August 2019, Ciatti’s Robert Selby says bulk wine markets, so far, remain unmoved by the dry conditions, cautioning that this time of year is “always a dubious yardstick to judge activity levels by” primarily due to the northern hemisphere holiday season.

Selby says grape prices in Chile in 2020 could rise due to the lack of rain in the country over the past two years. He explains that in Valle Central rainfall has totalled 135 millimetres so far in 2019 compared with over 480 millimetre in a normal year at the same time. Yet, bulk wine prices there and across the world are stable, he says, and are largely expected to remain so.

“The stability of prices in the recent past and looking ahead suggests a reasonable level of confidence among buyers that they can secure the wines they need if they go looking for them. South Africa, for example, has lost market share as buyers successfully seek alternative sources; buyers currently enjoy some elbow room to be choosy about quality. Thus the global market as it currently stands is probably in a balanced to slightly long situation, with no sign anywhere of panic from buyers, only some sellers,” Selby notes.

He says the “seller nerves” were mainly being experienced in California, where inventory is “significant” and the latest harvest is imminent, and in South Africa, where pockets of availability on most varietals have “belatedly popped up in recent weeks, often too late for international buyers who have already switched to elsewhere, such as Argentina or Spain”.

“For the first time in a while, there are opportunities to be had on the Western Cape’s bulk wine market,” Seby says.

“There are also significant carryover stocks in Spain – most of its generic white wine and basic reds – and in Italy. Spain’s ongoing drought, however, is expected to clip as much as 30% off the coming harvest in some areas of La Mancha, while Italy’s crop is also expected to be down in size on last year.”

Selby says the latest estimates would indicate France’s 2019 harvest could be its second smallest in five years.

WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) – Minnesota State Senator Jeremy Miller toured the Hiawatha Mental Health Center Board and Lodge Wednesday Morning.

Miller saw first hand the conditions of the living center. He also spoke with some residents and heard their stories of recovery. Many of the residents living in the Hiawatha Mental Health Center have lived there for years and rely on the housing for a community support.

The organization provides long term permanent housing for adults with serious mental health conditions. The facility currently houses 10 people and has a total of four Board and Lodge Facilities in Winona.

Executive director Erik Sievers says the organization could use some state funding to maintain a minimum standard of living.

“We are grateful for the funding we currently receive from the state and other sources to keep the homes operating, but are greatly challenged to maintain the homes to the standard that people need and deserve,” Sievers said. “We feel it is important to show others what we provide and the value of long term housing to those in need.”

Miller’s walk through of the facility included the living room, kitchen, a bedroom with an attached bathroom and a few other living spaces. Miller plans to take what he learned back to the Legislature to fight for funding for the Hiawatha Mental Health Center.

“Seeing successful organizations like this and the services that they provide is really helpful so we know that the money that’s being invested at the state level is really going to be put to good use. I can’t think of a better example than right here with Hiawatha Valley Mental Health, ” Miller said. “I think we can use what they’re doing here in Winona as a model statewide and maybe improve services throughout the state because of the good work that they’re doing here in this region.”

The Mental Health Center Residential Director Mike Fahey says that more funding from the state would benefit them in more ways than one. Some clients have been with Hiawatha Valley for over 20 years so the conditions of the house are important to the staff.

“We would continue to provide direct resident services, for medication management, housing and also just for programming, resources for folks that need assistance with seeing their psychiatrist or therapist,” Fahey said. “This is a model of housing that’s unique. It provides an opportunity for our clients to become more self sufficient, responsible and independent with some part time staffing, so it’s a unique model. It’s another step towards people becoming more healthy and taking care of themselves.”

Each home provides supervision and assistance with living. Each home can hold up to 10 adults that have a mental health diagnosis.

On Aug 2, 2019, NovaSom Inc sought relief from its creditors under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. NovaSom is a provider of home sleep apnea testing, utilizing its AccuSom home sleep test.

On that same date, NovaSom filed with the Bankruptcy Court various pleadings, including a motion to sell substantially all of the assets of NovaSom to VirtuOx Inc, subject to higher and better bids, under a court-supervised process designed to, among other things, maintain the operations of NovaSom and transfer them to an approved purchaser, free and clear of all liens, claims, and encumbrances.

At a hearing on Aug 8, the Bankruptcy Court entered numerous orders authorizing NovaSom to continue its operations, fund its payroll and other working capital needs, and thereby preserve and maintain its business, customer relationships, and goodwill, with an anticipated sale date by September 27, 2019.

If VirtuOx is selected as the highest and best bidder and its purchase contract is approved by the Bankruptcy Court, it is the intention of VirtuOx to

  1. continue the business and operations of NovaSom with NO interruption in patient care;
  2. hire many of the NovaSom team members whom stakeholders have been working with for years;
  3. and continue to service its customers and attend to their sleep testing needs.

“Despite misinformation from other HST device manufacturers and/or HST testing providers, you should continue to send patient referrals to NovaSom Inc, as usual,” states an attorney for VirtuOx. “We would encourage individuals to review the court pleadings if they have any questions.”
